Lower Moreland Township Police Department Opens Hiring Process, Offers Competitive Salary and Benefits

HUNTINGDON VALLEY, PA — The Lower Moreland Township Police Department is actively seeking new recruits and has commenced the application process for individuals aspiring to join as police officers.

Mark your calendars, as the application window commences on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, and will run until Monday, March 25, 2024. Prospective candidates must ensure completed applications are submitted no later than 4 PM on the closing date. Applicants can either email their submissions to ssmith@lowermoreland.org or drop them off in person at the station. An administrative fee of $40, non-refundable, must accompany the application. This fee can be paid in cash, by check, or via Municipay, the department’s online payment portal.

The department offers a competitive starting salary of $85,545.34 for the first 12 months of employment, with an estimated increase to $137,880 for patrolmen after four years. But the financial incentives don’t stop there. The department also offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes pension, life insurance, health and accident coverage, dental and prescription plans, paid vacations and holidays, longevity pay, degree bonuses, tuition reimbursement, and a 457 plan. Officers are provided with uniforms, equipment, a department-issued cell phone, and bi-monthly BJJ based control tactics training.

Beyond the enticing pay and benefits, joining the Lower Moreland Township Police Department offers a host of opportunities for growth and specializations. These include roles in patrol, the detective division, school resource officer positions, K-9 units, traffic safety units, SWAT, hostage negotiation teams, range instruction, crash investigation, first aid, mountain bike patrol, major incident response teams, drug task forces, and field training officer roles. For those with prior municipal police experience, promotional opportunities to the ranks of Sergeant and Corporal may be available upon completion of probation.

Prospective applicants must meet several minimum requirements, including U.S. citizenship, possession of a valid driver’s license, being at least 21 years old, having a high school diploma or GED, successful completion or graduation from MPOETC-Act 120 prior to the offer of hire, and being physically fit. The department also has a tattoo policy, prohibiting visible tattoos on the face, ears, neck, or hands.

The hiring process includes a written test, physical agility test, oral interview, physical and medical examination, and psychological examination. The written and agility tests will take place from April 3rd through April 6th, 2024, at the Huntingdon Valley Youth Center, with oral interviews scheduled for the top 30 candidates who pass both tests.
