HATBORO, PA — Precision contract manufacturer KMM Group has secured an investment from private equity firm RS2 Healthcare Partners and appointed medical device manufacturing executive J. Mark King as president and chief executive officer, a leadership transition aimed at supporting the company’s next phase of expansion.
The transaction pairs KMM with a healthcare-focused investor while restructuring the company’s executive team to emphasize operational scale and engineering development. Financial terms of the investment were not disclosed.
King brings more than three decades of experience in the medical device industry. He previously served as president and chief executive officer of Tegra Medical, a contract manufacturer formerly backed by RS2 Healthcare Partners, and earlier led Clinical Innovations. He also held leadership positions at Baxter Healthcare, Cardinal Health and Johnson & Johnson.
“I have a long history of working with the principals at RS2 Healthcare Partners as well as serving as an advisor to KMM,” King stated. “With this investment, I look forward to partnering with RS2, John, Eric and the rest of the KMM team to expand the Company’s capabilities and further strengthen its position as a premier contract manufacturer for medtech and other end markets.”
As part of the transition, KMM co-founder John Shegda will become chief technology officer, overseeing engineering and technology strategy, while co-founder Eric Wilhelm has been named executive vice president of business transformation and organizational capability, responsible for operational improvement and organizational growth.
Shegda indicated his focus will shift toward advancing manufacturing technologies and engineering capabilities as customers demand increasingly complex products.
“Our customers count on KMM to deliver quality, responsiveness and execution every day,” Wilhelm remarked. “As we continue to grow, our priority is to strengthen every part of our operation while preserving the culture, accountability and manufacturing excellence that have always defined KMM.”
Craig Stern, co-managing partner at RS2 Healthcare Partners, described KMM as a company with specialized manufacturing capabilities and an established customer base, adding that the firm expects to support the company’s next stage of growth.
KMM manufactures complex, tight-tolerance components for the medical device industry and other precision manufacturing markets. RS2 Healthcare Partners is a Boston-based private equity firm focused on investments in healthcare companies.
