Jake Thompson’s Hot Start Fuels Lancaster Stormers’ Early Success

LANCASTER, PA — The Lancaster Stormers’ strong start to the 2026 season has been powered in large part by outfielder Jake Thompson, who was named the Atlantic League’s Player of the Month for April and May after emerging as one of the league’s most productive hitters.

Thompson entered June leading the Atlantic League in batting average (.405), runs scored (39), hits (53), on-base percentage (.484) and OPS (1.187), according to league statistics released Tuesday.

The Lancaster outfielder is also tied for the league lead with 14 doubles and ranks among the circuit leaders in slugging percentage and total bases.

The award comes as Lancaster continues to position itself among the Atlantic League’s early contenders, with Thompson serving as a key contributor at the top of the lineup.

The 16-game hitting streak carried by Thompson into June is among the longest active streaks in the league. He has also reached base safely in 29 consecutive games and sits seven games shy of the Stormers’ franchise records in both categories.

A native of Albert Lea, Minnesota, Thompson joined Lancaster after spending the 2025 season with Double-A Pensacola in the Miami Marlins organization.

Before beginning his professional career, Thompson played collegiately at Oklahoma State, where he developed into one of the program’s top offensive performers.

The Atlantic League Player of the Month award recognizes the league’s top performer across the opening two months of the season, with Thompson’s combination of batting average, on-base production and extra-base hitting helping separate him from the field.
