LEOLA, PA — Extreme Pole Buildings has made the Inc. 5000 for the first time, ranking No. 3,290 on the 2026 list as the Lancaster County post-frame builder expands despite management’s stated preference for controlled rather than rapid growth.
The annual Inc. 5000 ranks privately held U.S. companies based on three-year revenue growth. Extreme Pole Buildings did not provide its revenue or three-year growth rate in the information released Tuesday.
Founded in 2002, the family-owned company has grown to 15 employees and operates three crews. Five sons of owner John Lapp currently work for the business.
Rather than using the Inc. 5000 recognition as a basis for aggressive expansion, Lapp indicated that the company’s near-term strategy centers on improving productivity while maintaining its existing operating structure.
“We’re not looking to grow by leaps and bounds over the next couple of years,” Lapp said. “We’re trying to keep three crews and do a good job with what we have.”
Customer demand, however, continues to generate growth, according to Lapp.
“It’s hard because people keep calling,” he said. “People want to work with us.”
Extreme Pole Buildings serves customers in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Maryland, constructing custom post-frame garages, sheds, livestock buildings and commercial structures.
The company’s growth also has a succession component. Lapp is working toward eventually turning the business over to his sons, according to the company.
