PennDOT said inspectors identified severe bridge scour — erosion caused by fast-moving water removing soil around bridge foundations — prompting the immediate shutdown of the roadway for safety reasons.

The bridge carries Evansburg Road over Shady Brook Run in Montgomery County and sees approximately 3,247 vehicles daily.

According to PennDOT, the single-span arch deck bridge was originally built in 1930 and later reconstructed in 1971. The structure measures approximately 15 feet long and 21.5 feet wide.

With the roadway now reopened, normal traffic patterns have resumed in the area. Drivers who relied on detours during the closure should still remain alert for any residual congestion as traffic flow returns to normal.
