PHILADELPHIA, PA — Floating candles, giant spiders, haunted woods and towering milkshakes are taking over Craftsman Row Saloon as the Center City restaurant transforms itself into an immersive Halloween world through the end of October.
The restaurant’s “Nightmare Before Christmas: The Enchanted Nightmare” brings back Craftsman Row’s elaborate seasonal takeover with expanded floor-to-ceiling decorations, movie-inspired scenes, themed food and cocktails, and a haunted forest entrance designed to pull guests into the experience before they reach their tables.
This year’s installation draws on the spooky whimsy of “The Nightmare Before Christmas,” the theme that launched Craftsman Row’s Halloween tradition five years ago, while mixing in imagery inspired by familiar scary movies.
Visitors enter through a forest of weeping willows and wooden branches, passing hanging spirits, hay bales, pumpkins and caution tape. Jack and Sally preside over the scene as a video camera appears to record guests making their way through the display.
Farther inside, a fortune-telling banquette features a mural made entirely from tarot cards, overhead crystals and a crystal ball surrounded by flickering lights, potion bottles, draped fabrics and a vintage radio.
Above the bar, a custom storm cloud joins dozens of floating candles and witches’ hats. Elsewhere, thousands of feet of cobwebs, skeletons, jack-o’-lanterns and spiders cover the restaurant, including some of the largest decorations Craftsman Row has used.
One handcrafted sandworm stretches more than 20 feet.
Halloween Gets Its Own Menu
The transformation continues onto the plate.
Returning favorites include the Vampire Burger, topped with American cheese, candied bacon, pumpkin aioli, cheddar, olive eyes and blue tortilla-chip ears, and the Frankenberger, made with pepper jack, jalapeño “bolts,” fried onions, pickle eyes, lettuce, tomato and spicy barbecue sauce.
Guests can also order Boo-schetta with prosciutto and ghost-shaped mozzarella, Spiderweb Chips & Guac, and Spookghetti & Meatballs decorated with olive eyes.
New offerings include an Oktoberfest Burger on a pretzel bun with beer cheese and crispy onions; the Smoked Queso Skillet; The Belly of the Beast with braised pork belly and street corn dip; Pumpkin Sage Séance ravioli; Monster Tacos; and a Candy Apple Turkey BLT with apple slaw and maple-Dijon aioli.
Potions, Goblets and Over-the-Top Shakes
The bar gets its own Halloween treatment with drinks including the Pumpkin Margarita, served in a take-home pumpkin glass, and the Witches Goblet, a whiskey, blackberry brandy, lime and ginger beer cocktail served in a black souvenir goblet.
Other seasonal options include Candytini, Web of Nightmares, Toxic Treat, Bloody Nightcap, Midnight Mezcal, Vampire Bite, Forbidden Apple and Bloodbag, along with novelty shots such as Bobbing for a Bad Apple and Fortune Tellers Poison.
The restaurant’s signature extravagant milkshakes also return.
Scary Movie Night combines cookie dough ice cream, popcorn, Halloween candy and candy body parts in a keepsake popcorn bucket. Pumpkin To Talk About features vanilla ice cream, pumpkin puree, a festive pretzel rod and edible fall leaves.
Two newcomers join them: Mad Scientist, built around mint chocolate chip ice cream, a lab-coat cookie, rock candy and Nerds, and the boozy Caramel Apple Crypt, combining vanilla ice cream, apple liqueur, sugared apple, graham cracker crumble and caramel.

The Halloween experience will remain in place through Oct. 31, giving guests several weeks to wander through the haunted forest, consult the fortune-telling display or simply sit beneath the floating candles with a monster-themed burger and milkshake.
Then the transformation begins all over again. Starting Nov. 5, Craftsman Row plans to trade cobwebs and witches’ hats for the elaborate Christmas and holiday decorations that have become another of the restaurant’s seasonal traditions.
