TREVOSE, PA — The Advertising Specialty Institute appointed former Zillow executive Matt Gilliland as chief product officer, putting him in charge of product development as the company expands artificial intelligence across its technology platform for the $27.7 billion promotional products industry.
Gilliland will lead ASI’s product organization and oversee development of ESP+, the company’s platform connecting promotional product distributors and suppliers. His mandate includes accelerating AI tools intended to streamline campaign development, merchandise sales and customer service.
The appointment builds on ASI’s push to incorporate generative AI into workflows used by companies selling branded apparel, drinkware, bags, technology accessories and other promotional merchandise.
Gilliland has more than 18 years of product and technology experience, including 12 years at Zillow. He most recently served as vice president of product, working on technology supporting the company’s marketplace connecting real estate professionals, buyers and sellers.
ASI’s ESP+ platform connects distributors with more than 3,000 suppliers and provides access to more than 1.2 million promotional products. Distributors use the platform for product discovery, sourcing, presentations, quotes and orders.
“Matt knows how to take complex technology and turn it into products people want to use every day,” ASI Chief Executive Officer Ashish Mittal stated. “We’re building the technology our members will need next.”
ASI began expanding AI functionality within ESP+ before Gilliland’s appointment. In July, it launched Inspire Design Studio, which allows distributors to create product lifestyle images, locate company logos and generate original visual assets using AI.
Gilliland indicated that his product strategy will focus on using technology to reduce administrative work for distributors and suppliers.
“I’m excited to combine that foundation with modern technology that takes work off our members’ plates and gives them more time for relationships, creativity and their customers,” Gilliland stated.
ASI connects tens of thousands of distributors and suppliers serving the promotional products market.
