Alleged Smuggling Ring: What Lies Behind the Prison Walls?

PHILADELPHIA, PA — United States Attorney Jacqueline C. Romero has announced the indictment of Breyanna Cornish, Jawayne Brown, and Ahmad Nasir. They are accused of conspiring to smuggle contraband, including cellphones, narcotics, and weapons, into the Philadelphia Industrial Correctional Center. Brown and Nasir face additional charges related to a conspiracy to distribute Suboxone.

Cornish, 29, and Brown, 40, both from Philadelphia, along with Nasir, 43, currently incarcerated at State Correctional Institution – Greene, allegedly engaged in bribery involving federal programs. If convicted, Cornish could face up to 15 years in prison, Brown up to 25 years, and Nasir up to 35 years, with fines reaching $1.5 million.

The FBI led the investigation, with significant support from the Philadelphia Department of Prisons. Assistant United States Attorney Meghan E. Claiborne is prosecuting the case. It is crucial to remember that these charges are allegations, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
