HARRISBURG, PA — With inflation continuing to challenge working families and small businesses, Pennsylvania House Republican policymakers are proposing significant tax reforms aimed at immediate relief and long-term economic growth.

During a public hearing titled “Cutting Costs, Creating Commerce,” held on Thursday at the Adams County Economic Alliance in Gettysburg, lawmakers and stakeholders discussed actionable solutions to ease financial pressures. The event, led by Rep. David H. Rowe, Chair of the House Policy Committee, and hosted by Rep. Torren Ecker, brought together legislators and community leaders. Representatives Barb Gleim, Valerie Gaydos, Kate Klunk, John Lawrence, Robert Leadbeter, and Dave Zimmerman were in attendance.

The session featured testimony from Stephen Kelly of the Commonwealth Foundation, Isaac Bucher, a small business owner, and Robin Fitzpatrick, president of the Adams Economic Alliance. Testifiers highlighted the need for pro-growth policies, such as expanding Net Operating Loss (NOL) carryforwards and eliminating Pennsylvania’s Accelerated Sales and Use Tax. A tax rebate for state residents using surplus funds was also among the proposals discussed.

“Adams County is home to hardworking small business owners who want government to get out of the way,” said Ecker. “This hearing put a spotlight on solutions that will empower our job creators and give working families a fighting chance against inflation.”

Rep. Rowe emphasized the importance of adopting permanent policy changes. “Rather than grow government, we should grow the economy,” he stated. “Harrisburg must enact meaningful tax relief that allows businesses to innovate, expand, and contribute to Pennsylvania’s competitiveness.”

The proposed reforms reflect lawmakers’ effort to reduce economic burdens and position the state’s economy for sustainable success.
