WASHINGTON, D.C. — The United States Mint will begin sales July 16 of a limited-edition series of Liberty Bell-shaped gold coins and silver medals, marking the first non-round coins and medals issued by the Mint in recent U.S. history as part of the nation’s 250th anniversary celebration.
The products will go on sale at noon EDT on Thursday, July 16, the Mint announced. Production is capped at 2,026 of each version, with purchases limited to one of each product per household during the first 24 hours.
The collection includes a one-ounce gold coin, a half-ounce gold coin and a half-ounce silver medal. The release is part of the Mint’s 2026 Semiquincentennial Coin and Medal Program commemorating the 250th anniversary of American independence.
The Liberty Bell-inspired design features the historic inscription, “Proclaim Liberty Throughout All the Land Unto All the Inhabitants thereof,” and incorporates manufacturing techniques developed specifically for the project.
According to the Mint, engravers used laser technology to complete both engraving and finishing in a single process, allowing for additional surface textures, including details depicting the windows of Independence Hall.
Each Liberty Bell-shaped blank was individually hand-loaded and struck using a hydraulic press at the Philadelphia Mint’s Research and Development Laboratory. Because of the unconventional shape, the Mint said the dies were aligned to within the width of a human hair during production.
Customers may sign up for product alerts and view additional information about the Liberty Bell release and other 2026 Semiquincentennial products through the United States Mint’s website.
