WASHINGTON, D.C. — The U.S. Department of the Treasury and the U.S. Mint are moving forward with a commemorative coin program tied to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with surcharge proceeds designated for youth soccer programs serving military families.

The program, authorized under the FIFA World Cup 2026 Commemorative Coin Act, will feature $5 gold coins, $1 silver coins, and clad half-dollar coins commemorating the tournament, which will be hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Under the law, surcharge revenue from coin sales will be directed to FWC2026 US, Inc. Treasury officials said FIFA has committed to directing all surcharge proceeds toward youth soccer initiatives benefiting military families.

The surcharge amounts are set by statute at $35 for each gold coin, $10 for each silver coin, and $5 for each clad half-dollar sold.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the proceeds will support youth sports opportunities for children in military families.

“Every surcharge dollar will directly support youth soccer initiatives for service members’ children, expanding opportunities that build character, resilience, and community,” Bessent said.

The U.S. Mint plans to produce the coins at no taxpayer expense. Maximum mintages established by law are 100,000 gold coins, 500,000 silver coins, and 750,000 clad half-dollars.

According to Treasury, preorders are expected to begin in the coming months, with initial shipments scheduled before the conclusion of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The coins will remain available throughout the calendar year, subject to demand and production costs.

The coins will be offered in proof and uncirculated versions through the U.S. Mint’s website at https://www.usmint.gov.

The program arrives as the United States prepares to host FIFA World Cup matches during the nation’s 250th anniversary year, linking one of the world’s largest sporting events with a federally authorized commemorative coin initiative.
