BALTIMORE, MD — Olivia and Liam remained the most popular baby names in the United States in 2025, marking the seventh consecutive year both names topped the national rankings compiled by the Social Security Administration.

The annual rankings are based on Social Security card applications submitted at birth and are released each year in May.

Among girls’ names, Charlotte rose to the No. 2 position, ending Emma’s six-year run as runner-up. Eliana entered the top 10 for the first time, replacing Ava, which dropped out of the rankings. On the boys’ side, the top four names — Liam, Noah, Oliver and Theodore — remained unchanged from the previous year.

The top 10 boys’ names for 2025 were Liam, Noah, Oliver, Theodore, Henry, James, Elijah, Mateo, William and Lucas. The top girls’ names were Olivia, Charlotte, Emma, Amelia, Sophia, Mia, Isabella, Evelyn, Sofia and Eliana.

The report also highlighted the fastest-rising names of the year. Kasai, a boys’ name meaning “fire” in Japanese and Swahili, climbed 1,108 places to rank No. 639 nationally. Klarity was the fastest-rising girls’ name.

Other rapidly rising boys’ names included Akari, Eziah, Jasai and Neithan, while Rynlee, Ailanny, Naylani and Madisson rounded out the top five fastest-rising girls’ names.

The Social Security Administration said it has tracked baby names since 1997 and maintains a searchable database of name popularity dating back to 1880.
