Chester County Inspections Flag School Cafeteria, Coffee Shop

Food Safety Inspections

WEST CHESTER, PA — The Chester County Health Department identified food safety and sanitation violations at Great Valley Senior High School’s cafeteria and a West Chester coffee shop during inspections conducted October 26, 2026, while eight other food facilities were listed in compliance.

The inspections documented six violations at Great Valley Senior High School in Malvern and four at 7 Brew Coffee in West Chester. Two of the school cafeteria’s violations were corrected during the inspection.

The findings cover food storage, equipment sanitation, handwashing supplies and facility maintenance. The department’s reports reflect conditions observed at the time of inspection rather than a facility’s overall food safety record.

Great Valley Senior High School, 225 N. Phoenixville Pike, Malvern

Inspectors identified six violations in the school’s food service operation, including concerns involving food storage, cleaning and employee handwashing facilities.

Clean bowls and trays were found uncovered and not inverted in a dry storage area, leaving them potentially exposed to dust, dirt and other contamination. The department directed staff to store the items upside down or keep them properly covered.

Inspectors also observed buildup on the ice guard inside an ice machine near the preparation sink and mixer. The school was instructed to thoroughly clean and sanitize the component to prevent contamination of ice.

Two dented cans were discovered in the food storage area. Both were voluntarily discarded during the inspection, resolving that violation on-site.

The department also found that neither of the kitchen’s two handwashing sinks had paper towels available. Staff supplied towels during the inspection, correcting the deficiency.

Additional violations involved a nonfunctioning light near the daily specials area and accumulated dirt and debris on floors behind the ovens, kettle and tilt skillet.

Inspectors directed the facility to repair or replace the light and thoroughly clean the affected floor areas.

7 Brew Coffee, 829 Paoli Pike, West Chester

An opening inspection at 7 Brew Coffee identified four violations involving equipment arrangements, sanitation infrastructure and administrative requirements.

Inspectors directed the business to reverse the arrangement and operation of its three-compartment manual dishwashing sink to prevent contamination from a rapid-rinser sprayer and other food service activities.

The facility was also instructed to install beveled base coving where floors meet walls in food service and restroom areas, allowing those surfaces to be cleaned more effectively.

Other findings involved the absence of a hook above the mop sink for hanging mops to dry and a requirement to display the Chester County Certified Food Manager Certificate in public view.

The report did not identify any of the four violations as corrected during the inspection.
