WEST CHESTER, PA — Several West Chester food establishments were cited for food safety and sanitation violations during Chester County Health Department inspections conducted June 5, while a dozen other facilities across the county were found to be in compliance.
Benny’s Classic Pizza on North Church Street received the largest number of violations among inspected establishments, including food held above required cold-storage temperatures, expired sanitizer test strips, unlabeled food containers, inaccessible handwashing facilities, and unclean food-contact surfaces, according to inspection records.
Inspectors reported sliced cheese and cooked onions being stored at 45 and 46 degrees Fahrenheit, above the required maximum of 41 degrees. The restaurant was also directed to submit plans for installing a mop sink and to repair damaged flooring in the kitchen.
Papa John’s Pizza on East Gay Street was cited for rusted shelving above a three-bay sink, deteriorated caulking around the sink, and holes in an exterior door that inspectors said could allow pest entry.
The Biscuit Lady on West Gay Street received violations related to food labeling, employee food-safety training, handwashing access, inadequate lighting, missing thermometers, and conditions that could permit insect or rodent entry.
Inspectors also found staff were not properly documenting procedures for using time as a control measure for certain ready-to-eat foods. A compliance agreement was completed during the inspection, according to the report.
Yori’s Church Street Bakery was cited for facility maintenance issues, including damaged base coving, peeling ceiling surfaces near food-preparation areas and improper mop storage practices.
The Chester County Health Department noted that inspection reports represent conditions observed at the time of inspection and may not reflect the long-term operational status of a facility.
