PAOLI, PA — Paoli Hospital and Schuylkill Township will receive a combined $1.65 million in state grants to expand medical capacity and modernize police and municipal facilities in Chester County.
Paoli Hospital was awarded $850,000 to expand its perinatal testing center with a new reception and waiting area, examination and treatment rooms, clinical and staff support spaces, provider accommodations and related infrastructure.
Schuylkill Township received $800,000 for renovations and additions to its municipal complex, including expanded police and administrative facilities.
The township project will upgrade locker rooms, restrooms and showers; add secure evidence and ammunition storage; and create an interview room and holding cell. Plans also call for modernized offices, flexible workstations and a large conference room.
State Rep. Melissa Shusterman attributed the need for the hospital expansion partly to healthcare facility closures elsewhere in the region, which have placed additional pressure on Paoli Hospital.
“As a result of hospital closures in our larger region, Paoli Hospital needs to expand its capacity to serve patients, and these funds will ensure our friends and neighbors can receive healthcare when they need it,” Shusterman stated.
She also argued that renovations to the Schuylkill Township complex would better equip the police department and local government offices to serve employees and residents.
The funding comes through Pennsylvania’s Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program, which supports the design, acquisition and construction of economic, cultural, civic, recreational and historical projects with regional impact.
RACP funding is reserved for projects that cannot obtain primary financing through other state programs and are expected to support employment, tax revenue or other measures of economic activity.
