WEST CHESTER, PA — On Saturday, September 19, Honor Flight Philadelphia will bring our Vietnam veterans home from a very special Day of Honor in Washington, D.C. We are asking the community to join us at Saints Simon and Jude Parish in West Chester and help give these heroes something many of them never received when they returned from war — a true Welcome Home.
The celebration begins at 4:00 PM with food, music, games, and activities for the entire family. Then, at approximately 6:00 PM, our veterans will arrive home aboard four buses following a day spent visiting the memorials built in their honor.
Why should you come? Because more than 50 years ago, many of our Vietnam veterans returned home quietly, without the cheers, appreciation, and recognition they deserved. On September 19, we have an opportunity to change that. Bring your children, your family, your neighbors, and an American flag. Line the entrance, cheer, wave, applaud, shake a veteran’s hand, or simply say the two words they have waited decades to hear:
WELCOME HOME.
Your presence may seem like a small gesture, but to the veterans stepping off those buses, it can mean more than you will ever know.
