Rajant Advances in Pentagon Drone Autonomy Program

MALVERN, PA — Rajant Corp. has advanced to the second phase of a U.S. Department of Defense program focused on accelerating autonomous military systems, positioning the Pennsylvania-based networking company to further develop communications technology for drones and other unmanned platforms operating in contested environments.

Rajant was selected as a Phase 2 qualifier in the Defense Department’s Drone Dominance Program, an initiative led by the Defense Innovation Unit and the Test Resource Management Center to evaluate technologies supporting autonomous operations across multiple domains, the company said.

The program brings together selected industry participants to develop and demonstrate systems designed to support collaborative operations among autonomous platforms operating on land, at sea and in the air.

For Rajant, the next phase centers on advancing its networking technology for vehicle-to-vehicle communications, a capability viewed as increasingly important as military planners seek to deploy larger numbers of autonomous systems that can coordinate without relying on fixed communications infrastructure.

The company said its Kinetic Mesh networking platform is designed to provide real-time connectivity among autonomous vehicles, enabling systems to exchange information and maintain coordination in environments where communications networks may be disrupted or degraded.

“Rugged, resilient communications” are becoming increasingly important to autonomous drone operations in complex operating environments, Chief Executive Officer Robert Schena said in a statement.

The Drone Dominance Program is part of broader Defense Department efforts to accelerate the development and deployment of lower-cost autonomous systems as military officials seek to counter evolving threats and reduce reliance on more expensive conventional platforms.
