MALVERN, PA — Vishay Intertechnology (NYSE: VSH) has introduced six new resettable thermistor series designed to provide overcurrent protection in space-constrained electronic devices, expanding the company’s offerings for industrial, computing and consumer applications.
The new surface-mount polymer positive temperature coefficient thermistors are aimed at applications including USB-C ports, power-over-Ethernet equipment, battery-powered tools, industrial automation systems and home automation controls, the company said.
The products, marketed under the Vishay BCcomponents brand, are designed to help electronics manufacturers reduce circuit board space while improving efficiency through lower resistance and faster response times.
The six series provide holding currents of up to 5.0 amps and trip times as low as 50 milliseconds, according to the company. Vishay said the components also offer low resistance, reducing voltage drop in low-voltage circuits.
The thermistors are available in six package sizes ranging from 0603 to 2920 and heights from 0.3 millimeters to 2 millimeters, allowing designers to integrate overcurrent protection into increasingly compact devices.
The products are compliant with restrictions on hazardous substances and are compatible with lead-free soldering processes up to 260 degrees Celsius.
Vishay said it is also providing SPICE and three-dimensional design models to support engineers developing products that incorporate the new components.
The launch expands Vishay’s circuit protection portfolio as electronics manufacturers continue to seek smaller, more power-efficient components for industrial automation, telecommunications equipment and consumer devices.
