Neuraptive Expands Nerve Repair Portfolio With Device License

CHESTERBROOK, PA — Neuraptive Therapeutics has licensed a bioresorbable wireless nerve stimulation technology from Washington University in St. Louis, broadening its portfolio of therapies for peripheral nerve injuries as its lead drug candidate advances through late-stage clinical testing.

The clinical-stage biotechnology company said it secured exclusive rights to the device, which was developed by researchers at Washington University School of Medicine in collaboration with Northwestern University. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

The implant delivers targeted electrical stimulation to damaged peripheral nerves to promote regeneration before naturally dissolving in the body, eliminating the need for a second procedure to remove the device.

The licensing agreement expands Neuraptive’s pipeline beyond its lead product candidate, NTX-001, which is currently in a Phase 3 clinical trial for the surgical repair of transected peripheral nerves.

Nichole R. Mercier, assistant vice chancellor and managing director of Washington University’s Office of Technology Management, said the agreement is intended to advance development of the technology beyond the research laboratory.

“This agreement enables the platform to be further developed to advance peripheral nerve repair and have patient impact,” Mercier said.

Neuraptive Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Bob Radie said the company plans to evaluate the device both as a standalone treatment for severed nerves and in combination with NTX-001. He also cited early research suggesting the technology could accelerate recovery from crushed nerve injuries.

“The bioresorbable stimulator has real potential either on its own for repairing severed nerves or as a synergistic complement to our lead product candidate, NTX-001,” Radie said. “Overall, this technology could add a broader set of tools for surgeons and patients—aiming for better functional recovery, fewer long-term issues, and improved quality of life after these challenging injuries.”
