PHILADELPHIA, PA — A Philadelphia man who embezzled $322,798 from two area nonprofit organizations over four years was sentenced this week to 14 months in federal prison and ordered to repay the stolen funds, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
Seth S. Jones, 46, received the sentence from U.S. District Judge Gerald J. Pappert, who also imposed three years of supervised release following his prison term.
Jones pleaded guilty in July to two counts of wire fraud after federal prosecutors charged him by information in June.
According to court filings and statements, Jones worked in the finance department of a Philadelphia-area nonprofit organization that served as the parent company of a second nonprofit. Between May 2021 and June 2025, he used his position to divert organizational funds for personal expenses.
Federal prosecutors determined that Jones charged approximately $291,023 in personal expenses to a company credit card. Those expenditures included travel, gambling debts, Amazon purchases, rent, utilities and car payments.
Jones also transferred approximately $31,775 from a bank account belonging to the second nonprofit into bank accounts under his control.
To carry out and conceal the scheme, Jones falsified expense reports, failed to submit required expense documentation and created fraudulent invoices, according to federal authorities.
The combined losses totaled $322,798, the full amount Pappert ordered Jones to pay in restitution.
The case was investigated by the FBI and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Francis A. Weber and John G. Iannacone.
