MALVERN, PA — Rajant Corporation acquired The Bellwether Group, adding a Top-Secret facility clearance, cleared personnel, and national-security expertise that expands the networking technology company’s ability to pursue sensitive defense and federal work.
The transaction combines Rajant’s communications, edge-computing and autonomous-system technologies with Bellwether’s experience in applied research and classified government environments. The companies plan to develop and deploy technology for defense and national-security missions.
Bellwether’s security clearance and personnel give Rajant access to areas of the federal market requiring specialized clearances and mission expertise. The acquisition also expands Rajant’s ability to recruit and support cleared technical employees.
“The Bellwether Group takes us into an entirely new arena,” Rajant Chief Executive Officer and co-founder Robert J. Schena stated. “We now have the mission expertise, access and extensive experience to bring Rajant capabilities to problems we simply couldn’t reach before.”
Bellwether founder and CEO Tim Teal will join Rajant as chief mission and capability officer, reporting directly to Schena. He will work across the company’s technology, strategy and executive teams to identify defense requirements and align Rajant’s technologies and partnerships with those needs.
Teal previously held senior leadership positions in the U.S. Navy, National Security Agency, U.S. Cyber Command and Cyber National Mission Force. At Cyber Command, he served as technical director and founded what became its J9 directorate.
At the Cyber National Mission Force, Teal served as director and led the creation of an organization combining J6, J8 and J9 functions. His background includes cyber operations, signals intelligence, capability development and organizational design.
“The opportunity now is to connect those capabilities directly to mission, to understand what operators need, identify what already exists, determine what is missing, and bring the right technologies and partners together to solve the problem,” Teal stated.
Bellwether Chief Operating Officer and co-founder Dr. Shana Teal will become Rajant’s chief scientist. She will lead applied research involving emerging technologies, cognitive analytics and human behavior for defense and national-security applications.
Her work will include translating mission requirements into technical programs, product enhancements and potential new products in collaboration with Rajant’s engineering and development teams.
Rajant also expects technology developed for national-security applications to feed into its commercial portfolio, including products for mining, transportation and industrial autonomy. The company likewise plans to draw on experience from those commercial markets when developing technologies for defense applications.
