HARRISBURG, PA — McNees Wallace & Nurick LLC has appointed former Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney PC technology executive Jeff Lagana as chief information officer as the law firm expands its use of artificial intelligence and digital operations.
Lagana will oversee enterprise technology strategy, cybersecurity, and firmwide digital transformation efforts, succeeding longtime Chief Technology Officer Don Martin, who is preparing to retire, the firm said.
At Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney, Lagana helped develop Artifex, an internal legal AI platform that later evolved into a revenue-generating product used by the firm. His work earned recognition from BTI Consulting Group, which named Buchanan and Lagana among its “Best of the Best in Generative AI” leaders.
McNees Chief Operating Officer Jenna Wagner said the firm viewed Lagana’s experience monetizing AI tools and managing security operations as central to its technology strategy.
“Jeff has built enterprise AI platforms, turned them into revenue, and delivered millions in efficiency gains, all without compromising security or the client experience,” Wagner said. “We are investing in technology that empowers our attorneys and elevates the service we provide to our clients.”
Lagana said the firm’s leadership viewed technology as a strategic business function rather than a support operation.
“The best technology is an invisible enabler,” Lagana said. “Attorneys move faster, clients get better outcomes, and technology serves as the seamless foundation.”
Before joining McNees, Lagana led global security initiatives spanning 30 international offices and helped organizations achieve ISO 27001 cybersecurity certification standards, according to the firm.
McNees said Martin will remain with the firm during the transition period to assist with operational handover responsibilities.
Lagana holds a master’s degree in information technology project management from Robert Morris University and previously served in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard as an infantry and mortarman specialist.
