With spring right around the corner, we are all beginning to crave ice cream. The texture and flavor scratch an itch that nothing else can reach. If you are craving sundaes, floats, or cones, there’s nowhere else to go but a real ice cream parlor. Here are the best places to get ice cream in Chester County.
Best Ice Cream in Chester County
1. Scooped Ice Cream
130 Pottstown Pike, Exton · (484) 358-7099
Are you in the mood for gourmet, handcrafted ice cream and gelato? Scooped has some of the best, along with constantly shifting seasonal flavors. Their award-winning delights are made with the best ingredients including hormone-free, grass-fed milk, organic fruits, top-shelf chocolates and nuts. This ice cream shop is absolutely not to be missed!
2. Chester Springs Creamery
521 E Uwchlan Ave, Chester Springs · (610) 363-8500
Chester Springs Creamery not only serves delicious ice cream but is also a functioning dairy farm, the Milky Way Farm. They offer more than 48 flavors, all homemade. You can buy their made fresh ice cream on the premises or get a tour of the farm. They also have educational programs so kids can learn more about farm life.
3. Cookie Dope ~ Edible Cookie Dough & Ice Cream Bar
28 S High St, West Chester · (484) 401-9629
This award-winning ice cream shop has eight flavors of edible cookie dough, making 1,700 gallons per year, plus 12 flavors of ice cream, and 20 flavors of snow cones! My favorite joy is their Hot Brownie Sandwich with Ice Cream. They also sell all their amazing flavors in pints and quarts to take home. What more do I have to say? Go get a treat for you and your family!
4. Scoops ‘N’ Smiles
327 E King St, Malvern · (484) 329-6119
With locations in both West Chester and Malvern, Scoops ‘N’ Smiles are known for their premium Dutch-farm ice cream that is made fresh daily and their delicious homemade water ice. Some even say they have the best water ice outside of Philadelphia. If you’ve never tried this unique treat, you owe it to yourself to check it out!
5. D’Ascenzo’s Gelato
132 E Gay St, West Chester · (610) 453-1958
D’ascenzo’s started selling their gelato at farmers‘ markets and mobile events in 2004. The demand became so great, and the lines so long, they opened a brick-and-mortar store in 2011. Working with a West Chester dairy farm, their ingredients are locally sourced and made in small, individual batches. If you’ve never tried D’Ascenzo’s handmade gelato, it is time to indulge!
6. Gemelli Dessert Café
12 Market St, West Chester · (484) 557-8482
Gemelli in Italian means twins. While no twins are running it, the Gemelli Dessert Café does pair tradition and innovation and gelato and ice cream. Some of their dessert creations are almost too pretty to eat… almost! Their artisan chef, Vincenzo, was born and raised in Ferrara, Italy, and trained extensively to learn the art of crafting true Italian gelato.
7. Petrucci’s Ice Cream
472 Nutt Rd, Phoenixville · (610) 933-9390
Petrucci’s is an old-fashioned ice cream store, and you can’t go wrong there. The ice cream is delicious. They have gigantic banana splits, probably enough for two, but I won’t judge if you eat it yourself. In addition to 30 flavors of hand-dipped ice cream, their menu includes fresh daily homemade water ice, milkshakes, sundaes, frozen cappuccinos, smoothies and more.
8. The Creamery at the Farmhouse
119 W Lancaster Ave, Downingtown · (610) 269-0124
The only reason this isn’t higher on the list is the Farmhouse is known more for being an awesome coffee house than as an ice cream shop. However, they do make their own ice cream, and it is amazing. Their milkshakes are often named the best in Chester County and the Western Suburbs.
