Sharon Katz & The Peace Train Bring Global Sounds to Wayne for ‘Desert Air’ Album Celebration

WAYNE, PA — Fans of world music and live performance will have a chance to celebrate the release of a new album as Sharon Katz & The Peace Train take the stage at 118 North this August for a special concert featuring fresh material alongside audience favorites.

The Aug. 9 album release party will spotlight Desert Air, the group’s newest recording, while also showcasing the internationally influenced sound that has made Sharon Katz & The Peace Train a longtime favorite with audiences. The evening will feature Sharon Katz, Wendy Quick, Jan Jeffries, Suzzette Ortiz and Richard Hill Jr. performing selections from the new album as well as songs from the band’s catalog.

According to the group, Desert Air blends South African musical traditions with influences gathered during recent travels throughout the United States and Mexico. The album features original songs written by Katz and collaborations with Afrika Mamas, Wendy Quick and Jan Jeffries.

The recording brings together musicians from multiple countries, combining South African rhythms, jazz-inspired melodies, vocal harmonies and contemporary world music influences. It was co-produced by Sharon Katz and Sibusiso Dust Nkosi and recorded in Durban, South Africa, Todos Santos, Mexico, and San Diego, California.

Among the featured songs are the upbeat “Oh Baby Baby,” the jazz-tinged “Someone To Love,” the title track “Desert Air,” the percussion-driven “So Free,” and “A Place Called Home,” which reflects on life as a traveling musician.

“I’m looking forward to sharing these new songs with our Philadelphia-area fans while celebrating together at 118 North,” Katz said.

The new album is available on major streaming platforms.
