KENNETT SQUARE, PA — Chester County music fans will have a chance to hear a familiar local artist in an entirely new way this month as the Joe Kenney Band unveils a mini-orchestra format during a special hometown performance at Kennett Flash.

Set for Thursday, June 25, the concert will mark the debut of the largest ensemble ever assembled under bandleader Joe Kenney’s name, bringing together jazz musicians and string players to perform original music that blends contemporary jazz, chamber music, neo-soul, and cinematic influences.

The performance also celebrates the growing success of Kenney’s latest original release, Merging (The Zipper Technique), which has received international radio airplay, strong streaming support, and recognition from music critics and publications around the world.

For Kenney, a Chester County-based pianist, composer, author, and entrepreneur, the evening represents both a personal milestone and a celebration of the region’s creative community.

Originally conceived as a one-take improvised Fender Rhodes piano performance, Merging (The Zipper Technique) evolved into a larger composition featuring rhythm section and strings. Audiences at Kennett Flash will hear the work performed live alongside additional selections from the band’s growing catalog of original music.

The concert highlights the increasingly global reach of independent artists working from local communities. While rooted in Chester County, Kenney’s music has connected with listeners far beyond the region through radio broadcasts, streaming platforms, and live performances.

Presented by If Not for Music and Kennett Flash, the show will feature the award-winning Joe Kenney Band, a Phoenixville-based collective known for blending jam-band energy with jazz fusion, neo-classical, and neo-soul influences.

The group’s 2020 album Forth earned a Bronze Medal in the Global Music Awards and received airplay on more than 85 radio stations nationwide. Since then, the band has released a live album and continued touring in support of new original projects featuring guest vocalists, instrumentalists, and expanded orchestral arrangements.
