WEST CHESTER, PA — From exploring local water quality to advancing music therapy for dementia care, West Chester University is opening the doors to a day of discovery that highlights the power of curiosity and creativity.
The University’s annual Research and Creative Activity Day returns on Thursday, April 16, bringing together students, faculty, and staff for a campus-wide celebration of academic inquiry as part of “Celebrating WCU Week.”
Held in the Sykes Student Union, the event invites the public to experience firsthand the ideas, research, and creative work shaping the next generation of thinkers and problem-solvers.
“Research and Creative Activity Day highlights the innovative and impactful research being conducted by our outstanding faculty, students, and staff,” said Dr. Cheryl Neale-McFall, associate provost for research and creative activity.
A Day Filled With Discovery
Throughout the day, visitors can explore poster presentations, attend fast-paced “lightning talks,” and connect directly with faculty and students working on active research projects.
The event offers a unique opportunity for students to engage with faculty about ongoing work, including lab research, grant-funded initiatives, and hands-on learning experiences.
Highlights include:
- Student Poster Presentations: Featuring projects on topics like biofilms and water quality, examining how environmental factors impact ecosystems in Chester County.
- Faculty/Student Connection Event: A dedicated session where students can explore research opportunities and collaborate with faculty mentors.
- Lightning Talks: Short-form presentations from both students and faculty, offering quick insights into a wide range of research areas.
Projects on display span disciplines and real-world impact—from studying how trash affects aquatic ecosystems to examining how music therapy can improve emotional well-being for individuals with dementia.
Celebrating Academic Excellence
The event also includes recognition of student achievements, with awards for poster presentations announced mid-morning and additional honors for oral presentations later in the day.
By bringing together diverse fields and perspectives, Research and Creative Activity Day reflects West Chester University’s commitment to innovation, collaboration, and community engagement.
