MALVERN, PA — The Chester County Intermediate Unit will formally open its new Child and Career Development Center campus in Great Valley on Wednesday, October 21, expanding access to specialized educational services for students with significant support needs across Chester County and surrounding school districts.

The facility, located at 40 Moores Road in Malvern, houses four special education programs across 12 classrooms. It serves students from five Chester County school districts and another 21 sending districts throughout the region.

The new campus consolidates specialized learning environments in a purpose-built facility designed to accommodate individualized instruction, communication, collaboration, and the development of independent living skills.

The building incorporates natural lighting, flexible instructional areas, and design features intended to connect indoor learning spaces with the surrounding landscape.

CCIU Executive Director Dr. George F. Fiore described the project as an effort to improve access to specialized services while reducing geographic barriers for participating families.

“By bringing specialized services closer to home for many families, we are expanding access to the support students need to learn, grow, and reach their individual potential,” Fiore stated.

The campus uses biophilic design principles, which emphasize connections between built environments and nature. Its classrooms and common areas are intended to accommodate students with varying educational and developmental requirements.

Hillary Soring, principal of CCDC Great Valley, emphasized the facility’s role in supporting student independence and individualized educational goals.

“We want every student who walks through our doors to feel welcomed, valued, and supported, with opportunities to build skills, develop independence, and celebrate their own milestones,” Soring stated.

The official ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for 4 p.m. Wednesday and will include remarks from CCIU officials, regional school administrators, and community representatives, followed by guided tours.

Scheduled speakers include CCIU Board President Bonnie Wolff; Chester County School Authority representative Tom Wolpert; CCIU Director of Administrative Services Joe Lubitsky; and Soring.

Also participating are Owen J. Roberts School District Superintendent Dr. Will Stout, Tredyffrin/Easttown School District Superintendent Dr. Rich Gusik, and Great Valley School District board member Dr. Andrea Rizzo.

The project involved the Chester County School Authority, Breslin Architects, and other educational and community partners.

The new campus adds specialized instructional capacity to the CCIU’s regional educational infrastructure, serving students whose support requirements call for educational environments beyond those typically available in conventional classrooms.
