WEST CHESTER, PA — The West Chester community is gearing up for Step Forward to Cure TSC®, a heartfelt awareness and fundraising event benefiting the TSC Alliance®. Taking place on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at East High School, the event promises to bring together families, advocates, and supporters in a unified effort to combat tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC). Rain or shine, registration begins at 11 a.m., with the walk kicking off at 11:45 a.m.
Now in its 24th season, Step Forward to Cure TSC® is part of a nationwide campaign to shed light on this rare genetic disorder. The series includes 17 other events across the country, running from April 12 to June 7, along with a virtual option for participants who prefer to contribute from anywhere.
TSC affects roughly 50,000 individuals in the U.S. and 1 million globally. The disorder causes tumors to grow in vital organs, such as the brain, heart, lungs, and kidneys, which can lead to developmental delays, seizures, autism, and other challenging conditions. While some individuals manage mild symptoms, others face lifelong complexities requiring ongoing care.
“This event allows families and supporters to come together, raise awareness, and make a profound impact,” said Kari Luther Rosbeck, President and CEO of the TSC Alliance®. “Beyond raising crucial funds, these walks provide opportunities for those affected by TSC to connect, share stories of hope, and educate their local communities about the disease.”
Coinciding with Tuberous Sclerosis Awareness Month in May and TSC Global Awareness Day on May 15, the walk highlights the critical need for awareness and funding. Last year’s nationwide effort raised an impressive $720,400, and this year aims even higher with a goal of $759,000. Since the event began, more than $23.3 million has been raised through 529 walks, directly supporting research, education, and advocacy programs.
The TSC Alliance emphasizes that its research extends beyond TSC, with important contributions to advancements in epilepsy, autism, cancer, Alzheimer’s, and diabetes research. Despite its similarities in prevalence to conditions such as Lou Gehrig’s disease (ALS) and cystic fibrosis, TSC remains relatively underrecognized.
With a united community, powerful stories, and a shared goal, the May 17th walk offers an opportunity for attendees to take meaningful steps toward a brighter future. Whether rain or shine, this event shines a beacon of hope, determination, and progress for the fight against TSC.
Step forward and be part of a movement that makes a difference—not just for today but for the generations to come. Registration is free and open to everyone. Learn more at stepforwardtocuretsc.org or sign up on-site on event day.
