EAST LANSDOWNE, PA — A routine alert from a license plate reader system escalated into an arrest late last week after East Lansdowne police say an allegedly stolen plate was detected traveling through the borough.

According to the East Lansdowne Police Department, the incident unfolded at approximately 9:30 p.m. on January 16, when Officer Joshua Taylor received an automated alert indicating that a stolen license plate had been identified in the eastbound lane of Baltimore Avenue. Police said the alert prompted an immediate response.

Officers located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop in the 700 block of Baltimore Avenue, where police allege the driver was identified as Daniel Harris of Philadelphia. During the stop, officers determined that Harris was operating the vehicle while his driver’s license was allegedly suspended through the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. Police said additional motor vehicle violations were also discovered during the investigation.

Authorities reported that the allegedly stolen license plate was recovered at the scene. Harris was taken into custody and charged with receiving stolen property under Pennsylvania Title 18, driving without a valid license under Title 75, and related offenses. All charges are allegations.

Police said Harris was booked and later released after being issued 20 summonses to appear in court on the listed charges.

All criminal charges are allegations. A defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
