WILMINGTON, DE — A Wilmington man was taken into custody following an alleged armed carjacking that led police on a vehicle pursuit and ended with a crash into a residence, authorities said.

According to the Wilmington Police Department, the incident unfolded around 9:40 p.m. on December 28, when officers assigned to the Uniformed Services Division were in the area of Lancaster Avenue and North DuPont Street and observed a vehicle believed to have been involved in an armed carjacking reported moments earlier.

Police said officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the vehicle fled the area. Officers then made contact with the driver, identified as 31-year-old Devante Burton, who was taken into custody without further incident.
