AVONDALE, PA — Pennsylvania State Police at the Avondale barracks responded to a broad range of incidents across southern Chester County between December 5 and December 13, 2025, handling alleged DUI arrests, multiple vehicle crashes, theft and fraud investigations, and several sensitive child-related cases, according to incident reports released this week.
Troopers investigated numerous traffic crashes during the period, many occurring amid winter weather and hazardous road conditions. On December 13, a vehicle struck a deer along the Kennett Oxford Bypass in East Marlborough Township shortly after noon, causing disabling damage but no reported injuries. Later that evening, another crash on Folly Hill Road in Pocopson Township involved a vehicle that allegedly failed to stop at a snow-covered intersection, prompting authorities to close the roadway temporarily while emergency crews assisted.
Additional crashes were reported in Thornbury, London Grove, and London Britain townships between December 11 and December 12. Several of those collisions involved alleged failures to stop at traffic controls or unsafe turning movements. Most resulted in vehicle damage without serious injuries, though at least one driver was transported to a hospital for evaluation.
State police also reported multiple alleged DUI-related incidents. On December 6, troopers responded to a single-vehicle crash into a creek along Burrows Run Road in Kennett Township. Police said indicators of alcohol impairment were observed, and the driver was subsequently arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. In a separate incident on December 8 in Pocopson Township, a driver was alleged to have lost control on Lenape Road, left the roadway, and fled the scene before being located; alcohol-related DUI charges were later filed in that case.
Several theft and fraud investigations remain ongoing. On December 11, troopers were dispatched to a Walmart on Schoolhouse Road in East Marlborough Township for a reported retail theft in which the suspect allegedly fled on foot. In East Nottingham Township on December 10, a 65-year-old Oxford man reported being defrauded of $1,500 after an individual allegedly impersonating a sheriff convinced him to purchase gift cards. Another theft investigation in Franklin Township involved allegations that a juvenile stole $850 from a family member’s handbag.
Police also documented an alleged retail theft in Penn Township involving food and merchandise taken from a Starbucks and a Giant Food Store, with the value of the items reportedly exceeding $150.
Child-related incidents were among the most serious matters reported. On December 5, troopers received a ChildLine referral alleging that a 14-year-old female student at Unionville High School in East Marlborough Township was touched over her clothing by another juvenile during the fall of 2024. That investigation remains ongoing. In a separate incident on December 2, troopers responded to Octorara Middle School in West Fallowfield Township after receiving a report of alleged drug possession involving a student on school property.
State police noted that several cases remain under investigation and that additional charges may be filed as inquiries continue. All charges, arrests, and incidents described are allegations. Any suspect, arrestee, or defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
