NEWTOWN, PA — After a six-year absence from the local stage, The Mid Atlantic Dance Theater is set to unveil its first fully staged production of The Nutcracker since 2019, reigniting one of Bucks County’s most cherished holiday traditions. The production returns December 20–21 to the Zlock Performing Arts Center at Bucks County Community College, marking a major milestone for the regional arts organization.

Under the co-artistic direction of Andreas Jovovich and Priscilla Garner, the revived production blends young performers with seasoned professionals, offering a cross-generational showcase of talent. Organizers say this year’s staging reflects both artistic ambition and the resilience of a nonprofit determined to expand access to dance in the region.

“We are beyond excited to bring The Nutcracker back to the Newtown Bucks County stage,” said Executive Director Liz Fitchett Jovovich. She said the return offers a rare opportunity for students to perform alongside professionals, adding that the production highlights the dedication and depth of talent fostered within the community.

The Nutcracker’s storyline — the enchanting journey of Clara and her Nutcracker Doll — will be presented through new choreography, ornate costumes and Tchaikovsky’s iconic score. With public performances set for four showings across the weekend, organizers expect strong turnout from families eager to see the holiday classic restored to the local arts calendar.

MADT leadership, including President and Artistic Advisor Scott Jovovich, has spent recent years expanding the organization’s educational mission. Outreach programs, scholarships and community partnerships are central to its efforts to ensure dance opportunities regardless of age, background or financial means. The return of The Nutcracker, officials say, reflects the strength of that mission and the community support behind it.

Performances are scheduled for December 20 at 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., and December 21 at 1:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. Tickets are available at thedanceground.com/the-mid-atlantic-dance-theater.

Mid Atlantic Dance Theater, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, continues its work to provide professional-level training, performance opportunities and arts education throughout Bucks County and the surrounding region.
