Cheyney Road Bridge Replacement Project Set to Begin in Thornbury Township

Lane restrictions

THORNBURY TWP, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that work will begin Monday, November 3, on an $829,772 project to replace the aging bridge that carries Cheyney Road over a branch of Chester Creek in Thornbury Township, Delaware County.

Starting Monday, November 24, through Monday, December 1, lane closures with flagging will be in effect Mondays through Wednesdays from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM on Cheyney Road between Station Road and Thornton Road while crews perform clearing operations. Motorists are advised to plan ahead and expect delays. All work is weather dependent.

The project will replace the 94-year-old reinforced concrete slab bridge with a modern reinforced concrete box culvert. The new structure will be five feet wider on each side, accommodating two 11-foot lanes and four-foot shoulders to improve safety and traffic flow along the corridor.

J.D. Eckman, Inc., of Atglen, Chester County, is the general contractor for the project, which is funded 80 percent through federal dollars and 20 percent by the state.
