NEW CASTLE, DE — An 81-year-old woman was wounded early Tuesday after gunfire struck a home in the Rosegate community, according to the New Castle County Division of Police.
Officers responded to multiple reports of shots fired in the unit block of Rose Lane at approximately 2:08 a.m. Aug. 18, police reported.
Upon arriving, officers determined that a residence had been struck by gunfire and found an 81-year-old woman inside suffering from a gunshot wound to her lower body, according to police.
Officers provided medical assistance until emergency personnel arrived. The woman was transported by ambulance to a local hospital, where police reported she was treated and listed in stable condition.
Investigators also found an unoccupied vehicle parked along the street that had been struck by gunfire, according to police.
Detectives with the Criminal Investigation Unit responded to the scene and are investigating the shooting.
