Ex-TSA Worker Sentenced for Role in Prison Drug Smuggling Scheme

Court News

PHILADELPHIA, PA — A former Transportation Security Administration employee was sentenced Monday to three years’ probation, including one month of home confinement, for conspiring to distribute Suboxone inside a Philadelphia jail.

Talia Hicks, 33, of Philadelphia, was also ordered to forfeit approximately $2,900 by U.S. District Judge Kelley Brisbon Hodge. She pleaded guilty in March to conspiring to distribute controlled substances.

Federal prosecutors said Hicks and her co-conspirators smuggled Suboxone into the Curran-Fromhold Correctional Facility between December 2019 and November 2020. At the time, Hicks worked for TSA at Philadelphia International Airport.

Court filings show Hicks and a co-conspirator used inmate video tablet calls to coordinate payments through CashApp and Apple Pay. Investigators later uncovered multiple transactions tied to drug deliveries, with Hicks either supplying the Suboxone or helping move the money.

The FBI led the investigation, and the case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jason Grenell.
