NORRISTOWN, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that northbound Markley Street (U.S. 202 South) in Norristown will be reduced to one lane next week as part of ongoing repairs to the Elm Street Stone Arch Bridge.

From Monday, September 22, through Friday, September 26, the restriction will be in place between Harding Boulevard/Spruce Street and Marshall Street from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. daily. All work is weather dependent and may be rescheduled.

The $7.8 million project includes rehabilitation of the bridge’s arch barrels, reconstruction and widening of Markley Street at the Elm Street intersection, installation of adaptive traffic signals, utility relocation, new sidewalks, ADA ramps, and improved signage and guiderails. Substantial completion of the bridge work is expected in December 2025, marking the final phase of more than a decade of improvements to the U.S. 202 South corridor through Norristown.
