PHILADELPHIA, PA — Roxborough Development Corporation (RDC) is relaunching Art on the Ridge this month as a permanent gallery, transforming a once-vacant storefront at 6155A Ridge Avenue into a cultural anchor for Northwest Philadelphia. The gallery opened on September 15 and will operate weekly, offering the community a curated showcase of local artistry across more than 20 mediums.
The project builds on the success of Art on the Ridge’s earlier pop-up format, which drew strong community engagement and demonstrated demand for a dedicated creative space. By establishing a lasting presence, RDC aims to drive foot traffic, extend evening activity on Ridge Avenue, and bolster the corridor’s reputation as both a commercial and cultural destination.
“The opening of Art on the Ridge at our new location is a powerful example of how creativity can breathe new life into our commercial corridor,” said Jax Cusack, Executive Director of RDC. “We are proud to activate a once-vacant storefront into a space that celebrates our local artists and makers, while strengthening Ridge Avenue as a destination.”
Joann Desper, RDC Board President, added that the permanent home represents both cultural and economic investment. “This space will not only highlight the incredible creativity in our community but also serve as a hub for artistic expression and economic growth along Ridge Avenue,” she said.
The gallery is a collaboration between RDC and Baker Street Partners, supported by private community donations. Exhibitions will feature regional artists in disciplines ranging from jewelry, painting, and photography to quilted wall hangings, crochet, and candle-making. The lineup includes more than two dozen names, among them Rebecca Dickstein, Amelia Hay, Jeannie Seidel, and Will Thompson.
In addition to exhibitions, Art on the Ridge will host workshops in collage, weaving, and printmaking, along with music activations, seasonal events, and rotating showings. Admission is free.
Gallery hours are Wednesday and Thursday from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m., Friday and Saturday from noon to 8 p.m., and Sunday from noon to 6 p.m. The opening reception and additional event programming are expected to further position the space as a permanent cultural fixture in Roxborough.
