WEST CHESTER, PA — On September 11, Arbor Terrace Willistown will deliver 70 freshly made hoagies to local first responders in recognition of their service and sacrifice.

The “Hoagies for Heroes” initiative will include deliveries to the Willistown Police Department, Good Fellowship Ambulance & EMS Training Institute, and the Goshen Fire Company. Unlike typical catering efforts, the hoagies are being prepared in-house by Arbor Terrace residents, adding a personal dimension to the tribute. Alongside the sandwiches, many residents will also include handwritten notes of gratitude.

“9/11 is a time for reflection and gratitude. Our Hoagies for Heroes event is a simple way to show our appreciation to the brave men and women who are always there when we need them,” said Jessica Lopez, Community Relations Director of Arbor Terrace Willistown.

The senior living community has a history of hosting appreciation events, including outreach to healthcare workers, veterans, and service organizations. Leaders say these efforts are rooted in a belief that strong communities are built on gratitude and connection.

For residents, many of whom have dedicated their lives to service, the event offers an opportunity to give back in a tangible way. By preparing meals and writing notes, they are directly involved in honoring those who protect the community every day.

The initiative also reflects a broader message, organizers said: gratitude does not need to be grand in scale to be powerful. “Hoagies for Heroes” is designed not only to recognize first responders but also to serve as a reminder that small gestures of kindness help strengthen community bonds.
