Wilmington Man Charged in Shooting That Injured Three

WILMINGTON, DE — A 19-year-old man faces multiple felony charges in connection with a September shooting in Wilmington that left three people wounded, with bail set at $810,000 following his arrest more than a month later.

Wilmington police said officers responded at approximately 6:53 p.m. Sept. 5 to the area of D and Townsend streets following reports of a shooting.

At the scene, officers found three gunshot victims: a 31-year-old man, a 19-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman. All three were transported to a hospital in stable condition, according to police.

The case was assigned to Detective Michael Chambers of the Criminal Investigations Division. During the investigation, Chambers identified Naji Armstrong, 19, as a suspect and obtained warrants for his arrest, police reported.

On Oct. 9, authorities located Armstrong and took him into custody with assistance from the Crisis Management Tactical Team and the Crime Gun Intelligence Center.

Armstrong was charged with three counts of first-degree assault, one count of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, two counts of possession of a firearm by a person prohibited and one count of carrying a concealed deadly weapon.

Police did not provide additional details about the circumstances leading to the shooting or the alleged relationship between Armstrong and the victims.

Armstrong was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 20 and committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in lieu of $810,000 cash-only bail, according to police.

All suspects, arrestees, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
