PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) will implement significant lane restrictions on the Schuylkill Expressway (I-76) in the University City section of Philadelphia later this month for milling and paving operations.
Weather permitting, closures will begin Friday night, August 22. From 8:00 PM Friday to 5:00 AM Monday, August 25, the left lane and shoulder of eastbound I-76 will be closed between Walnut Street and the Grays Ferry/University Avenue exit (Exit 346B). In addition, from 11:00 PM Friday to 5:00 AM Saturday, August 23, the westbound left lane will be closed between the Schuylkill River and Walnut Street.
During the eastbound closure, the South Street ramps to and from I-76 will be closed and detoured. Motorists should follow posted detour routes to reach South Street or re-enter eastbound I-76.
PennDOT warns of heavy traffic and delays near the work zones and advises drivers to consider alternate routes, including I-676 and I-95, or I-476 and I-95. Electronic message boards will provide advance notice of closures throughout the region.
