PHILADELPHIA, PA — In a joint effort to improve access to care for older adults, Walmart and HumanGood have launched a mobile health initiative targeting senior residents across Philadelphia County. Throughout August, Walmart pharmacists will host wellness clinics at 18 HumanGood affordable housing communities, providing services to more than 1,400 seniors.
The partnership began with a community event at Riverside Presbyterian Apartments in Center City, where residents received free health screenings and consultations. A summer barbecue and a $20,000 donation from Walmart to HumanGood’s Cupboards of Care program rounded out the event. The program aims to combat food insecurity and promote healthier eating among low-income seniors through nutrition education and access to better food choices.
“HumanGood’s mission is to help older adults live their best lives, however they define it,” said Lynn Johnson, Vice President of Philanthropy at HumanGood. She praised Walmart’s support as critical to long-term resident well-being.
The pop-up clinics will offer blood pressure checks, BMI screenings, pharmacist consultations, and affordable immunizations. In addition, Walmart will educate residents about its Same-Day Pharmacy Delivery service, which includes prescriptions, groceries, and general merchandise delivered to their doorsteps.
Ben Gibson, Pharmacy Clinical Services Manager at Walmart, emphasized the importance of on-site care: “We’re excited our collaboration with HumanGood has grown so we can deliver care to even more seniors where they live.”
This initiative highlights how public-private collaboration can bridge healthcare gaps for aging populations. By eliminating transportation and access barriers, Walmart and HumanGood are advancing practical solutions to help seniors remain healthy, independent, and connected to their communities.
