PHILADELPHIA, PA — Music fans are set to gather at Union Transfer on Sunday, July 13, at 6 p.m. for “40 Years Ago Today: A Live Aid Tribute Concert,” commemorating the monumental Live Aid event of 1985. The tribute will feature an all-star lineup of Philadelphia musicians, honoring the legendary performances from that historic day while also raising funds for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS).

The concert’s proceeds will go entirely to LLS, a cause close to the heart of performer Dito van Reigersberg, known as the frontman of the Martha Graham Cracker Cabaret. Van Reigersberg, a leukemia and lymphoma survivor, recently celebrated two years cancer-free. “LLS is an incredible organization that eases the burdens – financial and otherwise – for people like me diagnosed with blood cancer,” he shared. “The Philadelphia arts community has truly rallied around this cause while celebrating an iconic moment in music history.”

The event will highlight numerous local artists, including Johnny Showcase, pianist and singer Eliza Hardy Jones, trombonist Ernest Stuart, and rapper Reef the Lost Cauze. Attendees can also look forward to performances from drag queens Brittany Lynn and Shannon Turner, gospel singer Paula Holloway, and many others. Musicians will recreate legendary sets from the original Live Aid, such as Queen’s electrifying Wembley performance and Led Zeppelin’s reunion at JFK Stadium, promising a night of nostalgia and exceptional talent.

The tribute will be hosted by Philadelphia comedian Chip Chantry, ensuring a night filled with entertainment and surprises. Concert producer and Martha Graham Cracker pianist Victor Fiorillo teased, “We can’t tell you everything that’s going to happen. What fun is life without surprises?”

Tickets for the 1,200-seat venue start at $30, with opportunities to donate to LLS during the concert. This event is made possible by presenting sponsor Love Your Block, alongside support from Pat’s King of Steaks, the Pistola Restaurant Group, Standard Tap, Johnny Brenda’s, and entrepreneur Sandi Foxx-Jones.

“40 Years Ago Today” offers music fans a chance to relive history and make a meaningful impact, embodying the spirit of togetherness that defined Live Aid.
