BENSALEM, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced new construction activities next week as part of the ongoing $116 million project to improve a three-mile section of U.S. 1 in Bucks County. The project aims to reconstruct and widen the roadway, enhancing safety and traffic flow through Bensalem and Middletown townships.
On Monday, May 19, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, lane closures will occur on the southbound side of U.S. 1 between Fairhill Avenue and Rockhill Drive. The closures will facilitate the installation of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) equipment, which will support improved traffic management.
Additional work is planned for Thursday, May 22. From 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, lane closures will take place in both directions on Rockhill Drive between Overlook Boulevard and Neshaminy Boulevard for line striping operations.
PennDOT urges motorists to prepare for potential delays and allocate extra travel time while moving through construction zones. “Backups and delays will occur,” the agency stated, noting that all scheduled activities are weather dependent.
Drivers are advised to exercise caution and remain vigilant near work zones to ensure safety for both road users and construction crews.
