Crack Cocaine Bust in Wilmington Leads to Arrest on Outstanding Warrant

WILMINGTON, DEWilmington Police have arrested a local man on drug charges following an investigation conducted by the Special Operations Division Traffic Unit.

The arrest occurred on May 12 at approximately 9:54 a.m. in the 700 block of East 17th Street. Officers were on the scene as part of an ongoing traffic investigation when they came into contact with Shannon Johnson, 22, of Wilmington. Authorities determined that Johnson was wanted on an unrelated matter and initiated further inquiry.

During the investigation, officers allegedly recovered 21 grams of crack cocaine and $1,289 in cash. Following these findings, Johnson was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance with the Intent to Deliver in Tier 2 Quantity, in addition to addressing his outstanding warrant.

Johnson was arraigned at the New Castle County Court of Common Pleas, where his bail was set at $20,000 secured. He was subsequently released after posting bail.

The Wilmington Police Department confirmed that the case remains under investigation.

Authorities remind the public that Johnson, like all defendants, is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
