Man Caught with Stolen Gun and Drugs After Wilmington Scooter Escape

WILMINGTON, DE — A 27-year-old man has been arrested on multiple charges following an incident involving the Wilmington Police Canine Unit on May 1, 2025.

According to authorities, officers observed a male subject, later identified as Ikeem Thomas, illegally operating a motorized scooter on the sidewalk in the 700 block of West 4th Street around 5:45 p.m. When officers attempted to intervene, Thomas fled the scene but was apprehended shortly after without further incident.

During the arrest, police discovered that Thomas was wanted on an unrelated warrant. Additionally, officers recovered a loaded 9mm handgun, previously reported as stolen, and 3.0 grams of crack cocaine.

Thomas now faces multiple charges, including possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, possession of a controlled substance, resisting arrest, and traffic violations. He was arraigned in the New Castle County Court of Common Pleas and remanded to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $9,000 cash-only bail.

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
