Sellers Avenue Bridge to Undergo $9.8 Million Replacement in Ridley Park

RIDLEY PARK, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is advancing a $9.8 million infrastructure project to replace the Sellers Avenue bridge superstructure over Amtrak rail lines in Ridley Park Borough, Delaware County.

Scheduled demolition activities will begin next week, requiring periodic overnight closures at key intersections. Weather permitting, closures are set for Monday, February 24, and Tuesday, February 25, from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM. Impacted areas include:

  • Sellers Avenue/Ward Avenue and East Hinckley Avenue.
  • Sellers Avenue/Ward Avenue and East Ridley Avenue.

During these times, construction personnel will direct motorists through the work zones. Travelers are advised to plan for potential delays and allow additional time when driving near the affected areas.

The project involves replacing the existing bridge superstructure with a modern 75-foot-long concrete box beam bridge. The new design features two 12-foot travel lanes and pedestrian sidewalks on both sides. Stability will be improved by installing new concrete material behind the original stone masonry abutments.
