WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has expanded a recall to include additional Gutierrez brand ground cinnamon, alongside El Servidor Corp brand, due to potential lead contamination. This update follows an analysis by the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets, which found elevated lead levels in the products.

Lead exposure poses significant health risks, particularly to children, potentially causing irreversible damage to the central nervous system, developmental issues, and learning disorders. Adults face risks such as kidney dysfunction and hypertension. While no illnesses have been reported, the FDA advises consumers to stop using the affected products immediately.

El Servidor Corp cinnamon has been distributed to New York retail stores since January 14, 2024. Meanwhile, Gutierrez brand cinnamon, packaged in 1.5-ounce clear plastic bags, was sold to cash and carry customers. Consumers should return the products to the purchase location for a full refund. The FDA and the company continue to investigate the contamination cause as production is halted. For further inquiries, consumers can contact the company at (973) 777-1851.
