The 2026 PGA Championship returns to the Philadelphia area this week, as 156 of the world’s top golfers arrive at Aronimink Golf Club in Newtown Square to compete for the Wanamaker Trophy. The year’s second major will be played May 14-17, the first time Aronimink has hosted the event since 1962.

Aronimink is widely regarded as one of the premier golf clubs in the country. The club was recently ranked No. 28 in the world among Platinum Clubs® Golf & Country Clubs and earned the No. 8 spot in Platinum Clubs® of America rankings. It is also recognized by Golf Digest among America’s 100 Greatest Golf Courses.

Originally founded in Philadelphia, the club purchased 300 acres in Newtown Square in 1926 before officially relocating to its current clubhouse on Memorial Day in 1928.

The course carries plenty of championship history. Gary Player won the PGA Championship there in 1962, while Keegan Bradley captured the 2018 BMW Championship at the course. Aronimink also hosted the 2020 KPMG Women’s PGA Championship.

This year’s field is loaded with star power, headlined by World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, who won last year’s PGA Championship at Quail Hollow Club. Scheffler has once again been one of the game’s most consistent players in 2026, recording six top-five finishes this season, including a runner-up finish at the Masters.

Two-time defending Masters champion Rory McIlroy is also expected to contend, while Tyrrell Hatton, Russell Henley and Justin Rose will look to carry momentum over from strong Masters performances.

The championship field will also feature 11 LIV Golf players, including Bryson DeChambeau, Jon Rahm, Dustin Johnson, Cameron Smith and Thomas Detry.

One notable absence, however, will be Phil Mickelson. The two-time PGA champion is expected to miss his second consecutive major championship due to a family health matter.

Fans will be able to watch the tournament on CBS and ESPN, with additional streaming coverage available through ESPN+ and Paramount+.
