With summer heat and humidity settling over the Philadelphia area, the Phillies welcomed the Chicago White Sox to Citizens Bank Park for a three-game interleague series after completing a season-series sweep of the San Diego Padres earlier in the week. The weekend featured plenty of offense and several dramatic moments as the Phillies continued their strong stretch of play.

Philadelphia got things started with an 8-6 victory on Friday night. After the White Sox scored twice in the second inning to grab an early lead, the Phillies answered immediately with a five-run outburst in the bottom half and held off several Chicago rallies the rest of the way.

The night featured a number of notable individual performances. Kyle Schwarber, known more for his power than his singles, enjoyed a rare four-hit game, finishing 4-for-5 with four singles for the first time in his major-league career.

Brandon Marsh helped ignite the Phillies’ offense with a two-run homer in the second inning. According to Matt Gelb of The Athletic, the homer was Marsh’s first against a left-handed starting pitcher since July 2022 during his time with the Angels and his first such home run since arriving in Philadelphia. Marsh continued his impressive season at the plate and entered the weekend leading the National League with a .332 batting average.

Adolis García continued his recent hot streak as well, launching a solo home run in the fourth inning for his second long ball in as many games. The Phillies collected their fourth consecutive victory and improved to 8-2 over their last 10 contests.

Saturday’s game featured another notable individual performance, although this time it came from the visiting White Sox. First baseman Jacob Gonzalez connected for the first home run of his major league career while appearing in just his sixth game since being recalled from the minor leagues. The White Sox finished with 10 hits and claimed a 6-3 victory, snapping Philadelphia’s four-game winning streak.

For starter Andrew Painter, the struggles continued. The rookie surrendered six runs on eight hits over 4â…” innings and was charged with the loss. The outing dropped his record to 1-7 and raised his ERA to 6.21 through 12 appearances (11 starts) in his major league career.

The Phillies have now lost nine of the 12 games in which Painter has appeared this season. Entering Saturday’s contest, opposing hitters carried one of the highest batting averages against him among qualified pitchers (around .302, ranking among the worst), underscoring the challenges the young right-hander has faced.

As of now, interim manager Don Mattingly has confirmed that Painter remains scheduled to make his next start. No skip or reset is planned at this time.

The Phillies claimed the rubber match on Sunday afternoon, defeating the White Sox 9-5 to secure the series victory and finish their homestand on a positive note. Although Aaron Nola struggled at times, allowing five runs on six hits and four walks over 4â…“ innings, Philadelphia’s offense provided more than enough support with an 11-hit performance.

Marsh continued his recent hot streak, homering for the third consecutive game while driving in two runs and scoring twice. Rafael Marchán added a two-run homer, Alec Bohm finished with two hits and two RBIs, Bryce Harper contributed an RBI double, and Trea Turner collected a pair of hits. Bryson Stott also delivered one of the game’s biggest hits, lining a go-ahead RBI single in the fifth inning.

The victory capped an impressive 5-1 homestand for Philadelphia. The Phillies have now won nine of their last 12 games and continue to play well under Mattingly, posting a 26-11 record since he took over.

Philadelphia will now head north of the border for a three-game series against the defending American League champion Toronto Blue Jays beginning Monday night.
