MEDIA, PA — Delaware County Community College student-athlete Fatumata Kaba captured a national championship in the women’s triple jump at the NJCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field National Meet earlier this month, giving the college its second national title in program history.

Kaba, a Sharon Hill native and graduate of Academy Park High School, won the event during the May 7-9 championships in Utica, New York. She also placed second nationally in the long jump after finishing second and third, respectively, in the same events in 2025.

“Being a national champion means ending my track career on a good note, as well as redemption for my performance last year,” Kaba said. “It’s a great finish to being a DCCC Phantom.”

Kaba received an associate degree in psychology from Delaware County Community College on May 14 and has been accepted to Yale University, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and Vanderbilt University for continued studies.

The national meet also produced additional milestones for the college’s track program.

Jimmy Love of Ridley, a graduate of Ridley High School, finished fifth nationally in the 100 meters, marking the strongest finish in school history for the event.

Cheyenne McCarthy of Broomall, a graduate of Marple Newtown High School, placed eighth in the 10,000 meters, becoming the first Delaware County Community College athlete to medal in that event.

Kaba, Love, and McCarthy each earned All-American honors.

“Our athletes have risen to the occasion, competing against the best in the country,” DCCC track and field coach Cara Fordenbacher said.

Delaware County Community College competes in NJCAA Division III athletics across multiple sports programs.
